43rd Annual Paul D. Wedge Memorial Award for the Outstanding Graduate Apprentice of 2010 will be held in La Marque TX at the George D. Rogers Regional Training Center.Billy Jordan from Local 40 wins the 42nd Annual Paul D. Wedge Memorial Award for the Outstanding Graduate Apprentice of 2009, Jonathan Russell is the Runner-Up. Both Billy and Jonathan will be representing SAJAC and their Local Lodges at the BNAP's National Competition in September.
21 Veterans indentured into Boilermakers Local Lodge 667 in Winfield, WV. On Tuesday November 1, 2005 21 Veterans of both active military and National Guard units were indentured into the Boilermakers National Apprenticeship through the Helmets to Hardhats direct entry program, approved by the Department of Labor and adopted by the BNAP.
SAJAC to hold open house and building dedication on December 2, 2005.
Building to be dedicated to Int’l President Newton B. Jones.
Construction is complete on the George D. Rogers Regional Training Center in La Marque, TX. The first Apprentice classes will be held there this summer and an open house will also be scheduled for this summer. The training center has 22 welding booths and 2 classrooms.
SAJAC held the38th Annual Paul D. Wedge Memorial Award Graduate Apprentice of the Year Competition August 21-25 in Charleston SC. 17 of the 26 Local Lodges SAJAC services had candidates in the competition, the largest number of contestants ever at one of these events. The winner of the competition was William J. Meredith from Local 40 in Elizabethtown KY and the runner up was Michael J. Davis from Local 30 in Greensborough NC. The winner received $1,500, a trophy and the right to compete in the National Competition in Kansas City next month. The runner up received $1,000, a trophy and the right to compete in the National Competition. Both Bill and Mike will compete as a team at the National Competition as well. All candidates received $500 and a plaque for being chosen to represent their Local Lodge. Special guest
Jim Wedge, youngest son of Paul D. Wedge, attended the awards banquet and spoke about what it meant to him to be raised in a Union Boilermaker home. Jim also told some stories about his fathers experiences organizing and as a business agent and International Representative, we were proud to have Jim there.
